Management of a Geopark on Sado Island must involve Niigata Prefecture, Sado City, educational bodies, private interests and the local population. Sado Geopark Promotion Council was established in May 2011, mobilized by concerned local parties.

Sado Geopark Promotion Council aspires to develop Sado's society, economy and culture sustainably, and in accordance with guidelines set out by Global Geoparks Network. The secretariat is in the Geopark Promotion Division of the Sado City Board of Education.
